That should pretty much get you there.

I also would like to create the same layout as the demo.generatepress.com site. Is there a template site I can use for faster customization of my site?

That domain redirects to our home page now. We don't have any sites that mimic the look of our main site. Once we do a re-design we will likely release this design as a library site :)
