It's Time For Me To Install A Child Theme

Hi Tom! The time has come for installing a child theme for the first time. I'm developing a digital content network and having control over the css and functions is much needed. Having said that, I'm excited about the GPP 1.6 release. I want to know if having a child theme installed would be kinda unnecesary or maybe it can help to develop more solid results.
If installing a child theme is still a great option, do you have a link to an official child theme I could install?
