Hi, I want to install google analytics 4. I'd like to avoid using yet another plugin if possible. Is there a place to paste the script inside GeneratePress? If so can you direct me, please?

this article explains how to add Google Tag Manager to your site:

If you're not using GTM, then the only differnce is that google provides you just ONE snippet that goes in the wp_head hook. example here:
