Hyperlinks from MS Word get lost when I copy the text into a new post

This isn't a theme issue and the theme itself has no control over the editor this way.

I don't believe WordPress editor supports copying and pasting from Word with the format intact.

You would need to re-add the links unfortunately.

GP doesn't have any contropl over the editor behaviour - that is a core WP function. The issue with copying from MS word to WordPress is that in the process you may be copying Word specific formatting which can lead to all sorts of issues. Good article here on doing that:
