Anne
I’m a freelance writer and am doing a refresh to my website (www.ecostratcommunications.ca) and am stuck on a technicality.
Currently, under my Portfolio page I have links to all my work under different niche headings. I’d like to make this page much tidier by having a list of each niche. The user would click on the niche that interests them and they would be directed to a separate page for work samples in that niche only. It would be kind of like what this writer has (and eventually I’d like to go with the icons she has too, once I figure out how to do that): https://www.jennifergregorywriter.com/published-articles/
I’ve tried experimenting with the menus but end up getting submenus which I don’t want. Also tried playing around with the Custom Links function but not getting anywhere. Any guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

StaffCustomer SupportHi Anne,
Thanks for posting your question here 🙂
I’m not 100% sure what you are trying to achieve based on the description above.
Are you basically trying to create categories in the Portfolio page and then each category will then take users to the list?
Let me know 🙂

that’s right. but I don’t know how to set that up. I mean, I could set up sub menus for each category but I don’t want to do that. I want to set it up as a list, the person clicks on whatever niche category they’re interested in and it takes them to another page with a list of all my work samples. I have already created a separate web page for each one, but I don’t know how to link this all up. I’ve tried going into APPEARANCE and then MENUS. Should I be doing something there to make this all link up?

StaffCustomer SupportThis would be completely unrelated to the menu system – the menu system is for the menu only and not for any of the page content.
Those category blocks would be need to built manually.
If you have GenerateBlocks Pro then the Container Links option should help:

StaffCustomer SupportThanks for your reply. Actually, I figured out how to do the container links yesterday after I emailed you. My question was actually about “linking to”. I wasn’t sure what to put in the link to get either the container to link to the page I want. But I just figured it out now using the reference you referred me to.
Many thanks!
Anne
No problem 🙂

Okay, I thought I had figured out how to add links to my individual portfolio niches this morning but now when I try, I get error messages. Obviously, I am not putting in the correct “Links to” information in that box.
I would assume that I would put in my web URL followed by the menu name (Portfolio), followed by the niche page name. For example, one of my niches is Financial Services, so I assume the URL should look something like this: https://ecostratcommunications.ca/portfolio/financial services. Remember, I’m doing this in a list, not a container box. I can’t figure out what I’m missing here. Might it be the fact that each of my five separate niche pages is still in DRAFT and hasn’t been saved as a live page? I could save it but I’m afraid it will appear in a strange place on my website.April 6, 2023 at 3:10 pm #2600182Leo

It could be the reason for sure. This is something you will need to test.
