how to put a thumbnail in the excerpt of my article

I can't manage to add an image in the excerpt of my article. I tried to add the image in my article and "Click the Set featured image". but the image still does not appear in the extract of my article. Only the text excerpt appears.

Did you add a Featured Image - in the sidebar metabox in the editor?
Yes when I go on the dashboard and then in the article I can see "a feature image" in the sidebar
when I want to customize my site, the box " feature image" is checked but the image in the excerpt of my article still does not appear
I logged in a checked a post called Modernism in Architecture but don't see a featured image uploaded here?
