How to make a blog

Hi i have a website for my local store.
Now i also want to make a blog on my website.
If i use the option ´posts´ of wordpress i am not able to change the lay out with generate press.
If i make a ´page´ then i can customize.
Problem is that i want to make of every catergory a overview page. But cause of that i don´t use the ´posts´ option of Wordpress i am not able to make categories. So that also means i have to make for every blogpost a thumbnail. If i would use the ´posts´ of wordpress then i could just choose a block like ´post categories´. What is a solution for this?

I would suggest to use post.
Posts have default category archive page, you don't need to create them.

This should not be the case, post editor should be the same as page editor. Do you have any difficulty to customize post?

I see, but what about the categorypage
Hi there,
the Blog Page and the Category Archive pages are not directly editable as they are not regular pages - instead they are a template with a Loop function that displays the relevant posts.
What changes are you wanting to make to the Category Archive pages ? Do you have an example site you can share ?
