How to I change/remove published date?

Been trying to get this solved for several months, but no solution. Basically, all my content shows up with "original published date" instead of the last updated date.
So I want to know how to change this by either showing the last updated date or removing the last updated date

if you can remove any other CSS or code that you may have added to make this happen, then try adding the PHP Snippet provided here:

Tried that. Doesn't work. It's in my child theme's PHP file.
This would mean some other code is interfering with the function.
We never reached a conclusion here - which highlighted some code issues. Maybe best to run a staging site, strip back the custom functions to see whats working and what isnt.
