how to have merged header on pages, no merge on posts

Hi, I have a simple merged header on the pages (with navigation), but then individual posts have the post title run up behind the logo and nav in the header.
If I exclude "posts" from the header in gp elements display rules, the post title now appears below the header, but since the default background for the website is white, the white text of the navigation and white logo cannot be seen on individual post pages.
How do I add a dark background to the header only on post pages? The header would only have the site logo and the nav.
I tried to create a new header in gp elements with only "posts" set under 'display rules', and added a background color, but no luck. (I tried adding a comment in the page hero and a paragraph tag, not sure if that matters.)
This is a live website so I need to figure this out.

Hi Marc,
You can set the regular header color in customizer > colors.
Then set the merged header color in the header element:

Thanks, Ying! You rock.
I knew it was something basic I was missing (I already had the color set in the merged header, but customize header was blank).
You are welcome :)
Glad it works well now!
