    Hi Tom,

It appears the same issue may be occurring when search results pages appear.

A search term is typed into the search widget box and the results page that comes up displays three widgets (Search Box, Archives, Meta) that have not been selected for use (therefore unable to choose whether or not to display them).

Would be most appreciative if you could please advise what can be done here.

    Many thanks!

Hmm, are you using a navigation in that sidebar? Or is it empty?

Those items show when a sidebar is enabled, but there’s no active widgets inside of it.

    Solutions are:

    a) Add a widget to this sidebar
    b) Remove the sidebar, as it doesn’t have any widgets anyways.

If you have widgets, but they’re specified to certain pages, then perhaps adding a blank widget, and then hiding it with CSS would be your best bet.

Let me know if that’s the case – if so, I’ll need a link to your website with the blank widget added so I can provide the CSS πŸ™‚

    Hi Tom,

I have problems too with the generatepres theme. I’ve delite de meta and the archive of the sidebar.php. because it always dappears on pages without widgets. That works. But, the widgets i want to use only stays for a while. After some time they disappears. But not all of them. The widget “kontaktinformation”and the “logo slider” on the side “Akademie” are still be there (for example). But the widget i want to use on the front page didnt work, for example.
I use the “styles”, “generatepress” and an other special widget plugin, which i can handle where which widget should or should not appear. And this works, but so i sayed only for a while.
Please help me, ive spend a lot of time with this problem.
    Sorry for my bad english.

    Regards

    Hi Julia,

If a sidebar doesn’t have any widgets, the theme will display the default widgets which are what you’re seeing.

    You can either:

    a) Add widgets to the area, and the default widgets will disappear.
    b) Remove the sidebar from the page showing the default widgets (http://generatepress.com/knowledgebase/choosing-sidebar-layouts/).

Let me know if you have any questions πŸ™‚

So when you add a widget to a widget area and save it, it disappears when you refresh?

Try increasing your PHP memory: http://generatepress.com/knowledgebase/increasing-memory-limit/

Are you using a plugin like “Display Widgets” or “Widget Context” to choose which widgets show on which pages/for logged in/logged out users?

It sounds like you have some sort of weird plugin functionality going on.

    Hello Tom,

Yes, i have told you. i have other widgets plugins. I deactivated and delete it, but the mistake was still exists. than i had an idea. I go to each side and change the settings of the side from the global settings (content/sidebar) direct on every side to (content/sidebar). Now it works.

Glad you found a solution – you can also change the sidebar layout globally in the Customizer πŸ™‚
