How to display more than 6 posts on the (generic) Blog page?

I might have missed the key Q/A, but everything I found from searches on this forum seems to indicate one needs to add some PHP code (several responses refer to Wordpress.org's codex). Isn't there a simple way to set how many posts to display on the archive (Blog) page? Right now, it displays 6 (in 2 columns) and the pagination is at the bottom. Suppose I want it to display 9, what do I do?
