how to create a new container

The most frustrating thing about Generate, hands down, is how hard it is to click on the right thing. With practically every single task, I have to click 12 times before I get the thing I want to "light up."

To wit: I'm trying to add a container, into which I'm going to put a bunch of other elements. So I clicked on the spot on my page where I want it, added the container and a few of the other elements -- when suddenly I realized that the new container was inside of one that had already existed!!

Try as I might I can't figure out how to click in a "clean" spot of the page, so that I can start a new top-level container.

any ideas???
