how to adjust the width of posts ; they are full width and i can't change them

hi folks. i have played around trying to get my posts away from the left margin, but no luck. i have a content/sidebar format setup, but can't find the magic to move the post in from the left margin. thx in advance for your help/input.

I believe you have a Layout Element added that's setting the single post width to 2000px:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/layout-element-overview/#content-1
You can remove that element under Appearance > Elements if it's not needed.

so instead of deleting i changed the width to 1500, refreshed and viewed it; no change. what does changing that value supposed to do to the width of the blog post? it isn't making a difference here.
The width did change actually - this number was 2000px last time I checked:

If you change it to something like 800px then it would be more obvious.
I should also mention that the layout element is only needed if you want the container width of the single post to be different than the rest of the site and the customizer setting:
