I am trying to add meta descriptions for individual pages such as the Home/ Shop page, About page. It looks like filling out the Excerpt for posts completes the meta descriptions for them. So when the posts show up in the search a search engine, the Excerpt shows successfully as the text underneath the url and the tagline. As far as I can tell, to achieve this for pages, I must add a meta description. I’m trying to avoid using a SEO plugin for meta descriptions, I would like to complete the SEO tasks individually. Is there a way to add these meta descriptions to each of my pages within the GP theme? Thanks so much

I am trying out the plugin Easy WP Meta Description by Mats Westholm, the plugin gets really positive reviews. But when I fill in the Meta Description box for the page, my Meta is not displaying in the search engine. In the plugin details, its mentioned: “This plugin relies on the wp_head() action hook. It will only work if the theme uses it. Most themes do.” I’m not opposed to using this plugin, but not sure about how GP relates to the mention of wp_head() action hook. Any ideas or potential solutions are greatly appreciated.

    Hi there,

first off – yes GP supports the wp_head hook – all WP themes ‘should’ do.

Tom provides a Custom Field method of adding meta title and meta description here:

You will only require the parts of the code that reference the $meta_desc variable.
