    Hi,

I’ve been getting 404 error messages for apple-touch-icon-precomposed.png and apple-touch-icon.png for as long as I’ve had my website and I assume it’s something that I need to add to the site to correct.

After a long time (on several different occasions) of trying to resolve this, I still can’t see how to actually do it.

I’ve added a site icon through the Customise>Site Identity>Site Icon option, which is fine, but it seems that I still need to add a separate icon (or 2) for Apple products.

Please could you let me know where and how I can add these, as I am not code-literate and don’t want to end up breaking my site.

    Thanks very much,

    Joel

    Hi Joel,

Have you tried adding these files to the root folder of your server? If you check this thread in Stackoverflow, it seems that doing so may resolve the issue:

    Hope this helps!

Hi, I read that, but as I mentioned, I don’t know how to do that. Thanks

    I see.

This would depend on your Hosting Provider.

For instance, if you’re using Bluehost, you’ll have access to the File Manager as such: https://share.getcloudapp.com/bLuBRpJY

Then, you’ll be able to upload files manually as such: https://share.getcloudapp.com/BluG5EpJ

It would be best to reach out to your hosting provider for assistance with regards to uploading files directly to the root folder of your website.

The link provided in one of the comments in the first answer also says to upload the images in the root folder: https://mathiasbynens.be/notes/touch-icons#:~:text=That%E2%80%99s%20right%20%E2%80%94%20for,ico%2C%20anyone%3F)

    Hope this clarifies!

    Thanks.

I’m using Cloudways and I don’t see a File Manager. Do I need to add an SFTP / FTP for that?

    Yes, you would need that.

    Here’s a guide I found for Cloudways: https://support.cloudways.com/en/articles/5119485-guide-to-connecting-to-your-application-using-ssh-sftp

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the guide. I’ve downloaded FileZilla and connected to my site using my master credentials. The last step, hopefully, is to upload the file to the Root folder. But… which one is the root folder?

Is it the Public HTML one?

    Sorry, any ideas?

    By default, it’s public_html.

This article explains how to find it and how to add files: https://www.hitechwork.com/find-root-directory-of-wordpress-website-upload-file/

    Hope this helps!
