I’ve read your manuals but I still can’t figure out how to add an element to a page. I’m looking to add banners to specific pages to give them the flavour of a section. I’ve been able to create a header but don’t have any idea how to add it to a page. Your old video shows a Header section in the Edit Page section, but there isn’t such a thing in the newest version of GP. Point me to an article if you wish but I’ve probably read it and still don’t get it.

    Hi there,

Are you able to provide an example of what you’d like to achieve so I can provide the best suggestion possible?

Or explain a bit more about where you’d like to add it?

Here’s a website that does something similar to what I want to do. It was written in Joomla and I copied it over to WordPress using your theme. Everything worked fine but I couldn’t implement Joomla’s page banners without creating DIVs in codeview, which is a problem for untrained website maintainers.

Here’s the site: http://nbmns.ca– if you look under the main headers you’ll see the same banner over every subordinate page, kind of like a section header.

Can Elements do that sort of thing?

    Thanks

Yup header element should be the one:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/header-element-overview/

There is a step by step guide here in case you haven’t found it yet:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/how-to-create-a-page-hero/

What issues were having if it didn’t help?

Thank you for your help, but the article to which you’ve pointed me, and which I’ve already read, is useless.

For example, it says, in Step 1 “Add the content”

Where do I add this content?

You are talking to an old guy with an IQ of about 12. Please give me a real step by step document. There is nowhere to ADD the content. And there is nowhere, when on a specific page to SELECT the content, which I’m supposed to have miraculously added.

I realize I’m incredibly stupid but I have actually bought this plugin and pay to renew it every year so please explain how to use it, in terms that a lazy stupid person can understand. Do not sent me to another boilerplate article which doesn’t explain the first simple thing that needs to be explained. And don’t bother with that video either which is much too fast and shows me things that don’t appear on my up-to-date version of your plugin.

No problem! Let’s take one step at the time.

Were you able to create a new header element?

If so this should be the screen you see and the green highlighted part is where the content goes:

Ok, I was able to create a header element and assign it to one page of this site. But it’s stuck up at the top of the page. I want it to occupy space below the header and navigation bar and above the actual page content.

You can see the header here: http://vps12554.inmotionhosting.com/~thehmc2/workshops/

    Glad we are making progress!

Now disable the merge option under the site header tab:
