How to add Ad adsense code in the element

Hi
I need to remove an ad that appears on top of my posts. Google gave me a code to insert into my site, which I did, but it doesn't work. The ad is still showing.
I thought maybe if I put the code in the element, it would help. Can you please tell me how I should set the rules and what element to choose to insert the code so that the ad on top of all my posts won't show anymore?
