How do I widen the content width on the screen?
20 replies · Started by Heath on February 21, 2021
I dont want such a huge gap on each side of the screen of the content. Is there a way to shrink the gaps on each side a little more?
Hi Heath,
Have you tried adjust container width?

Let me know :)
I tried thus but I don't see a difference and still would like there to be less space.
Hi there,
If the container width setting on the customizer doesn't work, a oage's Layout Metabox or Layout Element may be controlling how it displays.
Any chance you could link us to the page in question so we could check? You can use the private information text field to provide the site details.
I have put a link to a post in the private box. Thank you!
Thanks.
Can you go to Appearance > Elements and check for any Layout Elements? Specifically the ones that are being applied to "Posts - All Posts". If you find one, edit it and check its content tab for any specified width. You'll most likely see a value of 1000px set to it.
What should I change it to to take most of the space away?
I've got a footer element set and it is showing 1000px
You can set it to a higher value (ex: 1400px) or set it to full-width.
Actually, I have no idea where to go change it or if I'm even talking about the right spot. How does the footer element affect the width of the wording on the posts?
What Elvin mentioned was LAYOUT element, have you found any?
If not, would you please provide login info so we can go in and have a look?
Login information in the private information box.
Check the page meta box of the home page, you've set the page to Full width.
Change it to contained or default should work :)

Seems to be set to full width already but I'm not pleased with the width.
Alternative to Ying's suggestion, you can change the content width to your preference through the customizer setting.
Go to Appearance > Customize > Layout > Container and set the Container Width value to a higher value so there's no gap on the sides. Here's what the setting looks like: https://share.getcloudapp.com/04uJEpjR
This setting applies to the Entire site.
If you want to target specified multiple posts or pages, you can create a Layout Element with its content tab setting set to content width of your preference as shown here - https://docs.generatepress.com/article/layout-element-overview/#content-1 - and set its display rule location to your target specific posts or pages.
