How do I make 'Read more' visible beside post excerpts on homepage

I have 'Read more' label + text enabled in my display settings, but 'Read more' doesn't show on my blog homepage: http://www.doggyandpooch.com.

I can't add the 'More block' into my post directly, because I've written a manual excerpt (it isn't pulled from the post).

Please help!
