How do I add a background to the sides?

I would like to add a background image to the white space on either side of the content. I want the content to stay white. I also want the sidebars to stay white. I only want to add the image to the areas on the sides where there is no text.
How do I do this?

you need to:
1. Enable the Backgrounds Module in Appearance > GeneratePress.
2. In Cutomizer > Backgrounds. add a background to the Body
3. In Customizer > Colors make sure the Content and the Sidebars have a white background.
