Hmm it should be a very light plugin I think. Your site speed depends on how well each of the plugins are coded, not how many you have.

I've read that you should choose plugins that are well coded, but how does someone like me even figure that out?

And I"'ve read that you shouldn't have too many plugins in so many articles.
