How can I disable the link to a parent menu item?

I want my menu headings for the drop down menu to serve a group heading since I don't have an actual page for them. I will use them just to point to the child pages of the parent. How do I disable so that you can't click on the parent, or just have it linked to the first child page?
I appreciate any advice!

Hi Michael,
Add your parent item as a Custom Link, and set the URL to "#".
That will make it so nothing happens when you click the link.
