Home page options and future releases

Hi All
First of all, thanks for GP and GB, they are both awesome. I plan to move my main site to GP in the near future, but for now, I'm experimenting with a couple of new sites (they are live but set to discourage Google from indexing them).
I want to experiment with creating home pages.
I have a vague memory of someone from GP mentioning that page builders not be needed in a future update. However, my memory isn't the best so I may be totally wrong.
I just wanted check before playing around with sections and page builder, if they wouldn't be needed soon.

I have basic familiarity with the block editor and have got GB. I didn't realise you could use it on pages though.
