I want to create a sort of image based navigation on my homepage where when you hover over the image link, a hover overlay colour appears with text.

my aim is to have desktop view as so

and for mobile and tablet, to have rows of or 2

I have WP Show posts pro but am not sure this is yet capable of such a thing. Are there any ways generate press and css can achieve this? or any plugins which complement generate press nicely which would be a good method?
