Home Page Hero

Hello,
I have the Wordsmith theme and I am trying to (I guess) create an element/page hero for my home page (where the lady has her feet on the railing). I went into the element tab, uploaded an image, but when I hit publish nothing appears on my home page. It just shows my recent posts. How can I get this section to appear on the home page? Thank you.

Will this home page hero be used on other pages?
If not then it can simply be in the first container/section of the home page.
