GP Premium causing critical error
15 replies · Started by Meg on July 21, 2021
Hi, I've just created a new WP install in a subfolder of our site, and I'm receiving a critical error message when saving the license key to GP Premium. I tried uninstalling the plugin, downloading the most recent version from my account, and reinstalling, but the error still occurs. I contacted my webhost, and they asked me to reach out to you with the following error:

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi there,
This is a known error at this time when the response from the license key activation returns a 403 forbidden error.
This means our servers are having trouble communicating.
Can you ask your hosting for your server IP and a traceroute of the cURL connection to generatepress.com? This will give us the necessary information to see where the breakdown in communication is happening.
Let me know :)
Hi Tom, thanks very much for your help with this. The DreamHost server where the domain is hosted has an IP of 173.236.152.14 and the domain itself is pointed to the IP of 173.236.157.230.
Here's a link to a log file that the DreamHost team created for me - https://designsbysandbox.com/test.log
The issue is occurring in a subfolder, not in our main site. designsbysandbox.com/dcm/ Does that make a difference, and should I ask for a different log file?
Meg
Also of note.... on our main site (designsbysandbox.com) I am running GeneratePress 3.0.4 and GP Premium 1.11.3. The GeneratePress admin screen says in green font that it is "Receiving Updates" for the plugin. But it didn't update to the most recent version, nor did it notify me that there is a more current version available. Seems odd?
The designsbysandbox.com/dcm/ installation is the one with the issue. That site is also running GeneratePress 3.0.4 but with GP Premium 2.0.3.
Me too. I can't update the latest GP Premium plugin. Update fails with the message - Unauthorised.
Meg - that IP was blocked on our server. I've had them unblock it, so it should work now.
Alan - that's a different issue, this should help: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/updating-issues/#getting-an-unauthorized-message
Thanks!
That's great Tom. Thanks. Worked well.
Alan
Unblocking the IP did the trick, thanks Tom! Cheers to all.
Meg
Glad I could help :)
Hello! I also can't update the plugin. IP site 45.130.41.9 in the range 45.130.41.0 - 45.130.41.255 (I don't know if this is necessary). IP hosting 5.101.158.167 (range 5.101.158.0 - 5.101.158.255). But I serve several sites on different accounts of this hosting.
Hi there,
We had our hosting check those IPs but they confirmed that none of them are blocked on our end.
If your hosting is sure it's not them, can they provide a traceroute so we can see where the blockage is happening?
Thanks!
In our case, the connection to the servers comes from the address 5.101.157.227.
Can you additionally check it for blocking if the problem persists?
Earlier, you passed on a question from the developers.
Please specify the ip address to which you want to trace.
Everything worked out! Thank you! Reactivated the key and updated not on the plugin listing, but the console - updates /wp-admin/update-core.php?action=do-plugin-upgrade
Glad you got it working! :)
Hello Support Team, I'm experiencing the same problem as happened in July - attempting to update the gp premium plugin is causing a critical error. Could you please check to see if perhaps our IP was blocked again? The DreamHost server where the domain is hosted has an IP of 173.236.152.14 and the domain itself is pointed to the IP of 173.236.157.230.
Thanks for your help!
