Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to control what pages show up in a simple google search. By googling "the vpp", old shows (we're a theatre) appear in a google search. I've updated the site to reflect the new shows for our 2015 season, but the 2014 shows show up in a google search under our site. (The old shows, for example, are calling the nerd, everything elvis...you'll see what I mean.)

I want the new shows to pop up instead - any way to make this happen from my end?

Thanks!

Callandra

Pete is right - you need to tell Google which pages to crawl using Google Webmaster Tools.

You can also set your old pages to "noindex" using a plugin like WordPress SEO.

My website is operational; however, Google Search says "Site is coming soon" and won't recognize it in a search. What did I do wrong?

In "Settings > Reading", is "Search Engine Visibility" checked?

If not, you might just need to wait a while until Google re-crawls your website.

Do you know how long it takes for Google to re-crawl my website? It's been a week.

Thanks,
Bill

How long is a piece of string? In my experience Google is quick to crawl a website for the first time but slow to re-crawl it... at least a few months. It really depends on your website, including how often you regularly update with fresh, relevant content. Get onto the Google Search Console and use all the nifty tools there.
