Google mobile friendly test fails - text to small

Greetings from Munich.

Out of a sudden I am receiving error message from Google Search Console with regards to mobility index. A couple of pages are newly effected (in total 8 and it´s increasing) and the messages says:

"Text too small to read"

I have adjusted spacing, increased fonts, optimized images etc. but nothing helps.
I am running autoptimize and wpfastestcache so my pagespeed score is over 95+ % (I know you are not really in favour)

Strange enough: when I run the page test again in order to validate, I am not receiving any error message and it says : your site is for mobile optimized.

Now I am a bit desperate.

I heard that Google test is sometimes strange but I want to make sure that I have not overlooked anything specific to the error message "text to small". Maybe there is really text/content which is to small which I haven´t found.

Any tips are more than appriciated.

Hi there,

For such a well optimized site it is peculiar to be seeing these errors if there isn't actually a real issue with the font sizes.

So Google benchmarks font sizes at 16px.
So you can try increasing the mobile menu font size and if necessary the sub menu font size with this CSS:

.main-navigation .main-nav ul ul li a {
    font-size: 16px;
}

The other part is Image Captions - although have never noticed these being flagged. You can increase them with this CSS:

.wp-caption .wp-caption-text {
    font-size: 16px;
}

Hi,

I have recieved a re-crawling. Unfortunately the number of page/urls with status "text to small" have increased to 13 in total now.

No idea anymore on where to look. Game over?

Any tips is more than appreciated.

for your information. I have disabled autoptimize and wp-fastest cache in order to maybe make inspection easier.

Hi there,

with the Autoptimize switched on - if you run a mobile friendly test on of the problem posts do you still see an the error? If so click See Details to see what problems are flagged.

I just ran the test two times on one of your posts it failed first time and passed the second time. So it may just be googles resources being hit hard that is causing a resource overload.

I am getting more or less the same results. First test failed, second test passess mobile friendly test with additional information "page partialy loaded" and the above information.

Hi there,

All of those resources seem to exist if you click on them, so not sure why they're coming back as not found.

Does it say which text is too small? I'm not seeing it.

no information have been provided, which text exactly is to small, unfortunately.

By the way: I did a test with all pages just a minute ago and it passed imediatly without "any" additional problems.

Strange enough.

If you do not have any additional information I would suggest we leave it for the moment and see what will happen.

From my tests, everything looks good.

If they do report that some text is too small, there should be more details which you can open. Those details should point you to the problem text.

Hi,

the number of pages with mobile issues have increased to 40. However the error messages are different now. The following page have been reported as not mobile friendly (for example):

The report says:
" clickable elements are too close to each other " (Anklickbare Elemente liegen zu dicht beianander)
" Content wider than screen" ("Inhalt breiter als Bildschirm")

I just ran your site through it and there were no errors/loading issues at all.

Ah, so is that in Google Search Console? Is it a different tool than the one I linked to above?
