GeneratePress side with vertical navigation menu

I have a GP site at neigc.info that uses a vertical navigation menu. The only way I could figure how to do it was to put each menu link in a sidebar, then manually creating the links to the pages.

Is there a better way to do this? It seems like unnecessary work to create separate menu titles and enter links.

Not sure I understand what this means. The site you attached is just setting the navigation location to the sidebar, and that looks good to me. Manual work should not be required in this layout.
