Generatepress and Custom Sidebars – Dynamic Sidebar Widget Area Manager plugin
9 replies · Started by Tom on July 2, 2022
Is there any way of getting GeneratePress to work with this plugin?
https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-sidebars/
I'm transferring an older site to the GeneratePress theme and it uses a complicated system of custom sidebars based on the post categories. However the GeneratePress right sidebar seems to override this plugin.
Specifically the "location" options for the plugin a) don't load, and b) when already set from the existing post meta, are overridden.
Thanks for your help with this.
Hi there,
have you disabled the Block Widgets ?
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/disable-the-block-editor-in-widgets/
We have tried your suggestions, however, this did not resolve the issue.
This is how the plugin's location options appear in the 2022 and 2021 default themes: https://snipboard.io/poKuHZ.jpg
This is how the plugin's location options appear when using the GeneratePress theme: https://snipboard.io/zNkDew.jpg
As you can see, when using GeneratePress, something is overriding the plugin's location options.
I believe those options are dynamic. ie. it shows the widget options that are visible specific to that criteria.
What widget areas do you have on display for your single post ?
The right sidebar.
So i have that plugin running on one of my sites, and i created a new sidebar and this is what i see:

Is the Sidebar setting applied in the Customizer?
And you have NO disable elements or layout elements that would affect that ?
That's odd.

Is the Sidebar setting applied in the Customizer? - Yes
And you have NO disable elements or layout elements that would affect that ? No
Can you try disabling other plugins to check for conflicts ?
