Generate Press Menu is conflicted by WP Menu

Hi there
I am having trouble to adjust the menu bar. I guess it should be possible to adjust the menu through the Wordpress UI as well as through the customizer of Generatepress. Unfortunately both seem to conflict each other/are not congruent. I can deactivate the menu in Generatepress but the WP menu stays on.
Why is the Generatepress Theme/customization not overruling / mastering all other basic settings? Why is the Generatepress menu not synced with the WP menu builder?

Hi there,
the Menu builder you find in Customizer is the same as the WP Menu builder found in the backend. GP doesn't change how that behaves.
What exactly is the issue ?
