[Resolved] function snippet – open blog post images in native wordpress lightbox / popup

might you know of a wordpress function to open all blog post images in the native lightbox that wordpress admin uses (sometimes you see it after the wordpress update for example)?

i believe there is a native lightbox for “gallery” but not single images.

1. create new post
2. insert image block (not gallery)
3. publish and click image on front end
4. an image popups in lightbox / modal popup (not redirected to new tab or attachment page)

it would seem odd to have to install a plugin if the existing code is already in place.

Hi there,

The theme itself doesn’t control the gallery or image block as those are both WP core blocks.

I’d assume the scripts would need to be modified to make it work for one or another.

I think a lightbox plugin is still the easiest solution.
