Hi there. I'm wanting to create a community forum for my page, but I've no idea where to start. Can you direct me where to even begin learning how to do this? Do I need a plug-in of some sort?

You will need a third-party plugin for sure.
We are using bbPress for this support forum here:

Since this is not a theme-specific question, you can Google "WordPress forum plugin" to see lots of other options and discussions.
