'footer widget 1' Recent Post Query

I have the 'footer widget 1' set up to display 'recent posts' at the end of my blog posts.
If I am reading a recent blog post - when I get to the bottom and see the recent blog post widget it has the same blog post I'm on in that widget.
Is there a way to not display the post I'm on in the footer widget.

Unfortunately that would require modifying the recent post widget which is a core WordPress widget.
Can you open a support topic with WordPress' support team and see if they are able to help?
If they can provide the method that works in a twenty series WP theme, the exact same code should work in GeneratePress.
