footer menu button and hover effect

I'm trying to add a button on the footer bar area. Is there a way to do that?

Also is there a way to make a hover effect to change the background for both links and buttons in the footer area?
I tried going to customize >colors > footer but that only changes the link color, not the background.

I tried adding the buttons that way
It worked one time
Then for some reason it didn't work again... I don't know why
Hmm, if you got it to work once, you can just copy what you did and it will continue to work.
If the CSS exists, and the link has the correct classes, you'll get a button.
The button works in page content but not in header content area.
This is fixed now, right?
It worked
I had some other CSS in the CSS field that 'broke' subsequent CSS. When I removed the problem CSS it worked.
