Font manager & new way of adding (local) fonts

Hello,
forgive me for asking, but I'm not sure I understand the complete workflow with the new font manager (started 3.1), especially related to adding local fonts. I've read your article https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-local-fonts/, where it says

Starting in GeneratePress 3.1, you can now add the local font in the customizer by inputting the font-family name without toggling on the Google Font option.

. But to use this do I still need to go through all the steps mentioned in this KB article, just without the part of adding the PHP filter (so downloading file fonts and calling them via @font-face rules in my CSS file)? Or this process is also automated in the background, so I can select a Google Font from the list and just deselect the checkbox "Google Font"?

Yes you still need to follow those steps.

We're working on automatic Local Font loading :)

Hi,

I am also trying to localize Open Sans following https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-local-fonts/

I could not upload the ttf file through the Media Library. Is the PHP function in need of an update?

Could you please also clarify where I can find the "Font Manager" to execute the last step?

Hi Markus,

To upload the ttf file, some websites would need to follow a step like this: https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/sorry-this-file-type-is-not-permitted-for-security-reasons/#1-add-new-permitted-file-types-using-wpconfigphp

The Font Manager should be in Appearance > Customize > Typography.

Hi Fernando,

Thanks! I managed to upload everything via FTP but it still does not display Open Sans correctly.

I am quite sure I followed all the steps as described on generatepress.com. My site is here and here is a screenshot of my typography settings.

I first used Simple CSS but that did not seem to work well. Additional CSS seems to work better. Still, I see in my site's source code that it always uses the eot file for IE9. I think what should be used is the woff extension.

Is that my problem? Do you know how to fix it?

Have you set Open Sans as the font to use in the Typography Manager? The screenshot shows they're currently set to inherit.

I am not sure. The screenshot shows that the Font Manager (at the very top) is set correctly, no?

Anyway, even if I select Open Sans (instead of inherit), for example, in the body area it still does not display correctly.

Any other ideas of where this has gone wrong? I did follow the instructions provided on generatepress.com

Can you try adding 'Open Sans' instead of Open Sans?
