Font Awesome Icons not showing up

Hi there,
I would like to use the Font Awesome Icons with my GP theme.
Unfortunately it's not working...
When I add something like the following to a post or page it won't show up.
<span style="color: #0000ff;"><i class="fas fa-adjust"></i></span>
What am I doing wrong?
You are trying to use a FontAwesome 5.0 font class fas that is not yet supported in GP.
Use the old FontAwesome site to get 4.7 supported codes:

I tried an icon from the old FontAwesome site, but it's still not working. I don't know why...
<i class="fa fa-microchip"></i>
<i class="fa fa-microchip" aria-hidden="true"></i>
Go to Customiser > General and uncheck 'load essential icons only'

Hi there,
I can understand this thread but having downloaded 1.72 I dont have the option to uncheck load essential icons and my font awsome icons dont show.
The essential icons option has been deprecated: https://generatepress.com/generatepress-2-1/
It's better to use a plugin to load Font Awesome: https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/better-font-awesome/
