Filter archive posts by category

The easiest way would be to use Tom's WP Show Posts: https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/wp-show-posts/

Then create your own archive page by using static page.

Shouldn't be an overkill. One of the main feature of the plugin is to achieve what you are looking for.

I'd recommend giving it a shot.

I gave it a shot! But I saw no option to filter the posts to be displayed by a particular category!

What I really want is simply for the ordinary Archives widget that displays posts by months to now display only posts within a particular category for the chosen month.

I was hoping for some PHP filter code that would do the job!

Try Add New List > Taxonomy > Category then you can select the desired category there.

Then you can use the shortcode and add it anywhere you want.
