Hello, is it possible to deactive a featured image of a post (home site)? I want to add specific images for the snippet image used by Google search. I am using yoast seo plugin, and the yoast team told me I need to add the desired image as a featured image for the snippet.

Hope you can help me.
Thanks.

Hi there,

Not sure I understand your question, is there any reason you are not using the desired image as the featured image?

Hi there,
I do you use a hero page (header element) and do not need the featured image. But the feature image is the image what google picks for the snippet image. If there is no featured image, google picks the first image of the page, and unfortunately, it does not pick the hero page.
So I wonder, if I can add a featured image on the post only for google, and deactive it, so that it is not visible for the website visitors.
Looking forward to your answer.
Kind rgds,

Hi Irmgard,

Can you provide the link to the site in question? We’ll take a look at your setup.

Hi Fernando,

http://www.yogastudio-nanda.de.

I am using yoast seo, maybe if I use another seo plugin, this would help. Which seo plugin do you recommend?

Thanks for your help.

Kind rgds,

Another. popular SEO is Rank Math, however, I'm not sure if it's capable of setting up images for Search results. You can probably try, or reach out to them.

You can try adding a featured imaged, then we can try hiding it through CSS. Not sure if that would be read by Google, but we can try, or you can also confirm with an SEO expert if this will work.

Hi Fernando,
Thank you for your recommendation of rank math. But rank math does also not have the possibility of choosing specific snippet preview images.
Could you provide me a css to hide the featured image? That would be great.
Thx.

Hi there,

if you:

1. select the Featured Image for your post then

2. enable the Blog Module in Appearance > GeneratePress

2.1 Go to Cutomizer > Layout > Blog --> Featured Images.
There you will see 3 tabs for Archives, Post or Pages:

https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adjusting-the-featured-images/

On each tab you can uncheck the Display Featured Image.

Yoast will still grab the Featured image, but thee Theme will not display them

Hi David,

can't believe it, this works. I am so happy.
Thank you so much. Generatepress theme is really the best. Just love it.

Kind regds,

Glad to be of help :)
