Featured Image Option Missing

Hello.
A client has just reported this. All latest versions – no sidebar entry for Featured Image on new Posts but it is showing when editing old Posts.
Unfortunately cannot provide Admin login on this site, but confirming bug.
*** Edited to add > Featured Image is not showing as a toggle under Preferences > Panels either.

can you make sure all plugins are up to date.
Potential reasons:
Plugin conflicsts
And if the issue persists you will need to check for Plugin conflicts by temporarily disabling all plugins and disabling any caches.
Browser cookes / local storage
Test in a different browser.
I usually just roll my eyes when a stock reply like this comes in but as we don't have this issue on other GP sites I did try deactivating a couple of plugins. Looks like you're right and I shouldn't be so arrogant!
It's a paid plugin so will get in touch with developer and let you know. Will specify plugin in Private COmment
Yeah its not a reply we like giving but it does cover a multitude of sins.
I think WP 5.9 has caused a lot of pain for traditional theme and plugin developers.

I think I need to be more specific. Under generate blocks Posts, somehow for my older posts, the "Featured Image" option is available, and appears after the "Tags" section. However, in my new posts, the entire "Featured Image" option is missing. So can it still be a plugin causing this??

Can you share what you figured out? I have had this problem since WP 5.9.0 and cannot identify any conflicting plugins. I have disabled ALL of them and still have the same issues with featured images that you mentioned. Your resolution would be a huge help to me, please.

the OP had a plugin conflict - if i recall correctly it was a video gallery plugin.
Many other users have reported similar issues since WP 5.9. ( Search )
Issues i have read through:
1. Editor settings - in the block editor 3 dot menu > Preferences >> Panels make sure the option is enabled.
2. User roles got scrambled - logging out the site, clearing cache, cookies and dumping the local storage ( hard restart ) can clear that.
3. Plugin conflict.

This is still biting us, across multiple sites. All Premium, all latest GP & WP.
The plugin conflict looks to have been a complete red herring; this is a sporadic and erratic bug and I guess the panel coincidentally returned when the video plugin was deactivated, and an assumption was made.
But, this is now happening on another couple of sites, the latest does not even have the (not guilty) plugin installed, confirming that this was a false positive.
I can create a new Post and the FI panel is missing. Add a block, an empty P will do, update, close, re-open, and voila, the FI panel is back.
*** Edited to add: when the panel goes AWOL it also goes AWOL from the preferences menu, simply not there.

Maybe a custom function on the site if it's not a plugin?
Yes, exactly that - when the FI Panel is not showing, the toggle option in Preferences is also missing.
But it is erratic, the worst kind of bug - this morning hit 'New Post' and of course FI is showing. Comes and goes.
I was leaning towards 'Publish Press Capabilities' plugin - which we use for custom roles - but the dev site I'm currently seeing this behaviour on has never had that plugin activated. No cache plugin either.
The number of reports of this clearly point at something, just not yet clear what it is.
It shouldn't be a GP thing or we'd be able to reproduce it - I just tried a few more times.
It sounds like something is messing with your theme supports. It could be a plugin or a custom function.
