Jim
I want a Featured Image to be seen (for preloaders) when I share the link, but I do not want it to show on the page. Currently, when I share the page, the Featured Image is an “X” image view. How can I correct this? I’ve searched the knowledge base with no luck.

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
are you using an SEO plugin ? As they generally have the options to set the Featured image as the Social Share image.
Then in GP you can simply Uncheck: Display featured images in Customizer > Layout > Blog – which can be defined separately for Archives, Posts and Pages.January 25, 2022 at 10:25 am #2093411Jim
I placed the images in Yoast (my SEO plugin) and the preview still does not populate on Linkedin. Yoast does not have a LinkedIn image element – it has Facebook and Twitter only. I made the GP changes and no difference. I even disabled Yoast and the preview does not show up.

StaffCustomer SupportHi Jim,
Just to make sure you’ve selected a featured image for the page you are sharing?

Correct

StaffCustomer SupportYoast does not have a LinkedIn image element
In that case maybe try a different plugin like RankMath?
I’m not sure which specific plugin would offer the LinkedIn option you are looking for unfortunatley.
You can always check with Yoast’s support team to see if they can offer any advice.

I have two other themes on other domains that do not have this problem. I do not need to shut things off or do any work around. Adding another plugin is not good answer. Please try again.

StaffCustomer SupportSome themes might have this feature built-in but some (like GP) don’t as it’s normally handled by an SEO plugin.
I would assume a Twenty series WP theme does the same thing as well.
Can you check with Yoast’s support team for their comments first? I’d assume you are not the only person with this issue.

Leo, I disabled Yoast and the problem still exists.

StaffCustomer SupportI think there is a bit of misunderstanding here.
The theme itself doesn’t have an option built-in to show the featured images when sharing a link – I believe this is the same behaviour if you are using a Twenty series WP default theme.
The reason is that the functionality is normally handled by an SEO plugin like Yoast or RankMath which is why disabling Yoast won’t fix anything.
Since Yoast allows you to set an image for Facebook and IG, my recommendation to you would be to check with their support team and see how you can have the same option for LinkedIn – perhaps it requires the pro version of Yoast.
Let me know if this makes sense 🙂

Leo, okay. So the bottom line is GP does not support it. My wonder is, why not.

That would be the reason.
As you see, Yoast supports Facebook and IG so I think the better question would be why doesn’t Yoast support LinkedIn as well.
Therefore I’d recommend checking with their support to see if they can provide a solution or comment.
