To clarify: Are you trying to remove the featured image assigned as a background image on the single post page's hero section?

If so, you can remove it on the container block of the Block element hooked as the page hero.

Block elements are found on Admin Dashboard > Appearance > Elements.

You can look for the Block element that sets the page hero. (Try checking for Block element that have either generate_after_header hook or is set as Block Element - Page Hero)

Can you show us the list of elements active on your site? We can try pointing you to it if we see what elements are on the site.
