It's difficult to tell through the popups etc.. I'm not seeing any console errors or anything indicating errors.

You could test it by placing the ad code directly into a template file - that bypasses the theme completely.

You could also use an HTML widget, which also has nothing to do with the theme itself.

Is there any way we can test this on a default/empty install? I'm not super comfortable with the popups/possible adware being loaded on my computer from the current ads. Had to scan my computer last time.

What I can say is that a theme (GP or any other theme) has no control over the HTML you add to templates. The code should either work or not work, but neither will be because of the theme itself.

You can view the source of your website to compare the HTML - if it's the same, then it should function the same.
