Ella
Hello, I’m struggling to make my footer look pretty!
My site is: http://www.forgettingfairytales.com and at the moment I just have the standard footer which I can change via Customise, but I can’t seem to change the colours, or add anything other than text really.
I want to add my instagram feed in so I went to Widgets and tried editing it this way: https://ibb.co/XpVJ27M But I can’t preview it to see what it would look like and then I’m not sure how to remove the current footer from all pages and add the new one across all posts and pages.
Can you please tell me the best way to go about this?
Thanks so much!

StaffCustomer SupportHi Ella,
Is there a specific layout you are trying to achieve?
That way we can provide the best method possible.
Let me know 🙂

Umm, I guess I want it to appear in a gold strip above the footer, like this: https://www.theblondeabroad.com (I think this girl may use the same plugin actually.) I don’t really have a proper footer at the moment though so I’m quite open minded. Anything that looks good and integrates the channel effectively! Thanks so much!

Hi Ella,
Thanks for providing a reference.
Well, for one, you can use a Block Element – Site Footer to fully customize your footer. See here: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-site-footer/
You can achieve to gold border by adding your instagram block/shortcode within a GB Container Block, and then add paddings and border to the container.

I’m really struggling to do this as it’s such a long editing process and some of the instructions in the video are potentially outdated as I’m looking for things that don’t seem to be there. Finding it very hard! Is there an easier way to do it at all? Or I can’t copy a part of a template that has already been made for a theme at all?
Thanks,

StaffCustomer SupportHi Ella,
If you are using a block element – site footer, there’re some built-in templates you can use to have a quick start.
Then you can add things to it, it should be much easier than building it from scratch.

Great! How do I go about doing this so that it shows on every page then please?
And I guess it will be easy to add the extra code in for Instagram on one of those?
Thanks,

StaffCustomer SupportThe site footer element can be created at appearance > elements > add new block element, I shot a small clip, it should help.

What kind of code? Is it a shortcode or HTML or JavaScript?
Let me know!

Wow, this was so unbelievably helpful. Thank you so much Ying. You’ve just made that so fast and easy. Great video explainer!!
– I’ve just published but it’s not showing up on my site like it does for you. Is there something wrong in my settings stopping this? My site is: http://www.totallypurrfect.com
– The instagram feed is HTML code so let me know how I properly integrate that in. I tried pasting the code but it just shows as code (although I’m not sure if that’s just because it’s still in editor?
Thanks again!

StaffCustomer Support– I’ve just published but it’s not showing up on my site like it does for you. Is there something wrong in my settings stopping this?
I think it’s likely because your site is cached, can you try clearing all the cache or disabling the cache plugin?
And also check if the location is set for the element.– The instagram feed is HTML code so let me know how I properly integrate that in.
You can use a custom HTML block, then paste the code into that block.
