Duplicate site

Hello GP-Support !

I have a site:
http://www.understand-culture.com (UC)

I have a second site:
http://www.johnottomagee.com (JOM)

I want to duplicate UC.
Then use it for JOM.

However, a duplicator plug-in
could not complete the work.

The size of UC is over 800 MB.
Apparently too large for my host.
I'll speak with my host tomorrow.

In the meantime, is there a way
to duplicate the structure, menus,
styles, etc., and not duplicate the
the pages and posts?

All I want and need is the theme,
which is customized thanks to the
great help from you folks.

Thanks.

John

Hi John,

Go to appearance > GeneratePress, there's an export option to export all the customizer options(except CSS), make sure the CSS in your additional CSS field is copied manually.

Wow, this would be great, Ying, if it works !

I am now importing the customizer options.
However, the wheel continues to turn.
I suspect I made some kind of mistake.

What do you think I need to do differently?

Ying,

I made a mistake.
I copied over manually the stuff in Simple Custom CSS.
Let me back up and try this again.

What do I first need to do on the johnottomagee.com site
before importing from understand-culture.com the customizer
options and before manually any Additional CSS?

John

The customizer export won't export the CSS in customizer > additional CSS, so just make sure you manually add the CSS back to the customizer after the importing is done on the new site.

I'm not sure about simple custom CSS, is it a plugin? If so, that won't be exported either.

There is a bunch of stuff in the Simple Custom CSS.
Most, or all, work David did for me.
I will manually copy that over.

There is nothing in Additional CSS.

However, the import did not work.
The dial just kept turning.

What do you think the problem is?

Do I have to prepare the receiving site
in any kind of special way?

Thanks.

I just tried on my end, it seems working fine, the import process took about 3 seconds.

It might related to your server's security settings.

Can you contact your host and tell them this situation?

You can also try a plugin like this to see if that works. https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/

By the way what's the plan for the old site?

If you are not going to use the old site anymore, maybe you can re-link the old site to the new domain?

Hi Ying,

I suspect that you are right, that it is related
to my server settings. I'll contact my hosting
company this morning.

Re: my old site ... http://www.understand-culture.com ...
will continue to exist. In fact, I am hoping to
generate revenues with it via yearly subscription.

Let me get back to you about the server restrictions.

I got it to work, Ying.

Great, great, great thanks to you.
Such an easy and elegant solution !

John

Great! Glad it works :)
