Display Featured Image In Latest Posts with Excerpt

the default WordPress Recent Posts widget doesn't support thumbnails.
You would need to use a plugin instead - for example:

I'm not aware of a best practice method for adding a such a third party widget to the main content area of a page.

Do you have a code snippet or alternative solution for that ?

I think we have our wires crossed - can you share me a link where i can see the Latest Posts ? You can edit your original topic and use the Site URL Field to share a link privately.

I have updated with a link.

It is a Page currently using the WP "Latest Posts" widget for a single category "team" with its listing option set to "Excerpt"

I'm attempting to add the Post's thumbnail to the listing.

Aah ok - the Latest Posts Block doesn't support featured images either.
We recommend the WP Show Posts plugin for creating lists:

I have that working now listing with WP Show Posts with the Featured Image and Excerpt, I didn't see a way to use first image in post, so now I'm wondering if there is a way to suppress displaying the Featured Image from the post view ?

TLDR - Customizer > Layout > Blog --> Featured Images -> Post (tab) Uncheck Display Featured Image
