[Resolved] Customize Archives Page template

Since my site has been online since 2014 the archive list is very long (±72 lines).
I’d like to organize this like this:
2014 – january – february – march – april etc.

I have found a (WPBeginner) tutorial from 2018 that describes this, but as the GeneratePress templates such as archive.php are organized with hooks, I’d assume there must be a newer way. Unfortunately I couldn’t find one.

Do you have a simple – hopefully standard – solution?

Okay, I’ll try to create a template. I do see an archive.php template and I’m probably able to upload a new template, but I don’t seem to be able to assign templates to pages (like before). Is that perhaps a setting I have to change?

Thanks David, I see the issue is not related to your theme but a general WordPress issue. I’m sure i’ll figure it out.
