Customising page header

Hello,
I would like to customise my page header to look like this: http://marketing.about.com/
What I need assistance on in achieving this is:
1. Edit the search box to be a static box on screen as seen in example
2. Position navigation items under said search box
Any help, assistance, advice in achieving this result would be much appreciated.
Have you tried adding the "Search" widget into the header widget area?
It will need some custom CSS to look the way you want it, but that's the easiest way to get the search bar in that particular area.
