Customise/Blog/Columns does not have an effect on custom content archive

Hi there,
I was playing around with the settings in Customise -> Layout -> Blog -> Columns and I noticed that changing the amount of Columns works for the archive pages for every category under Posts but not for an archive page for a custom content type.
Is this normal?
