Good Afternoon Leo....I can't get the free version to download on my new website, I can download the premium plugin, but that doesn't help me without the free version.

That's strange. Usually you can download one by going to Appearance > Themes > Add New and search for GeneratePress.

If not you can also download a version by clicking the Download button on this page then installed manually:
https://generatepress.com/install-generatepress/

Still unable to download the free version of GeneratePress. It gives an error message - unable to create directory, install fails.
